AKVATORIYA
Large entertainment center on Vyborgskaya storona - show yourself and look at others. Scantily clad girls dancing between bowling lines, discotheque waitresses dressed in fluorescent uniforms, thereby complementing wonderfully thought-out lighting effects; local crowd definitely belongs to "rich and beautiful" sort. There are frequent shows and live concerts. The priestesses of the "oldest profession" are either extremely cautious, or may be they aren't around at all… Atmosphere is just tops. Nightlife a la Russe? Certainly not. This establishment could successfully compliment nightlife of any European capital.
Address: Vyborgskaya nab., 61; tel. + 7 812 118-3518.
Nearest subway station: Lesnaya or Petrogradskaya.
Credit cards are accepted
GRIBOEDOV
Piter's cult rock group "Dva samoleta" decided to create something totally new, and they have succeeded at that! This bomb shelter located near Moskovsky railway station has quite a few followers, great majority of them, foreign students. Visitors come here attracted not so much by vodka, as by live performances. Face-control at the entrance is being balanced by very moderate cover prices.Usually club is jammed full, which is not surprising, considering its size.
And no fire exit, mind you! Not for visitors with claustrophobia.
Credit cards not accepted.
Address: Voronezhskaya ul., 2A; tel. + 7 812 164-4355. Nearest subway station: Ligovsky Prospekt.
HAVANA
Nothing to do with Latin America, instead - this is St. Petersburg teenager's paradise - enjoying pop dance music on all four dance floors. Havana is an OK place to have a couple of beers, but if you are over 25, most likely you will feel little out of place. Cover and beverage prices match audience's budget. Easy, relaxed atmosphere. Usually you have to stand in line to get in. Address: Moskovsky pr., 21. tel. + 7 812 259-1155
KONYUSHENNY DVOR
Legendary place for meeting foreigners in St. Petersburg. Something happens every night. On weekends it gets packed. Hans from Zurich falls in love with Olga from St. Petersburg, flirt starting with "nice weather today, isn't it?", then one of the guests passes out. All this happens with strip show in the background, girls dancing their legs away on tabletops. In all truth, perhaps Olga liked foreigner's purse much more than his eyes. Call girls know, of course, that foreigners get in free of charge. One gets what one looks for.
Address: kanal Griboedova, 5. Tel: + 7 812 315-7607
KONTINENT
Dance floor for teenagers located right on Nevsky - between Sheraton and Mayakovskaya subway station. Actually, Kontinent is a movie theater, where (on the balcony) they still do have shows. The pit was totally redone, and complemented with two bars and usual discotheque entourage. The floor is spacious enough; music brings no surprises. There are hardly any foreigners, but always plenty of students, prices very affordable. On Saturdays they have Dmitry Nagiev (St. Pete's pop idol) super shows. Credit cards not accepted.
Address: Nevsky prospect, 67. Tel. + 7 812 164-1825
МАМА
Best house- and techno-club in St. Petersburg. Open on Fridays and Saturdays from midnight on. Invited DJs, two bars, chill-out, computer club (open at daytime, too). Right at the entrance you start thinking whether you should renew your wardrobe. MAMA still doesn't have its own Internet address, though 15-machine computer club is not bad at all. Internet access and latest computer games are available. Its' incredible too, that one could come up with such stylish interior in such a decrepit building. Second floor is often used for performances and theater shows.
Address: Malaya Monetnaya ul., 36. Tel. 232-3137. Closest subway station: Gorkovskaya.
M111
Don't think that this is Soviet gymnasts society exercise room. As you may know, bowling is extremely popular, so the majority of bowling alleys are ultramodern, and local crowd largely consists of rich and famous. M111 Club, recently opened on Moskovsky 111, has incorporated under one roof 16 bowling lines, discotheque, pool tables and a restaurant. Futurist design, attentive staff and good beer on tap. The only drawback is that all club services are being summed up on your visitor's card, and you pay as you leave… So if you happen to lose your card, you'll be in big trouble.
Credit card are accepted.
Address: Moskovsky prospect, 111. Tel. + 7 812 320-4400
MONEY HONEY/ CITY CLUB
This first in St. Petersburg Western-style bar grew into a large club + pub - Apraksin Dvor warehouse space easily accommodating both. The first floor of MONEY HONEY is done as a Wild West-type saloon, with live rockabilly music by night. One floor up, CITY CLUB generally houses younger crowd, as for musical tastes, they are quite diverse: pop, rock, blues - you name it. You can play pool or sit at the table away from dancing crowd and have a mug of inexpensive beer. Cover is more than moderate: 50 rubles per person.
Credit cards not accepted.
Address: Sadovaya ul., 28-30, korpus 13 (under arch, on your right) Closest subway stations: Sadovaya, Gostiny Dvor. Tel: + 7 812 310-0549
OSTROV
New club, quite unlike any other, with its own concept and direction. Visitors will enjoy round rotating dance floor, which moves up and down as well. And if your head doesn't start spinning, then you perhaps would order a couple of drinks at one of the three bars. And in case you feel overwhelmed, you can relax in neon-lighted room styled as a beach, or at the club cafe. Here you always get latest music, shows are great. Cover 300 rubles, beer 50 rubles, coke 30 rubles.
Credit cards not accepted.
Address: nab. Leytenandta Shmidta, 37. Closest subway station Vasileostrovskaya.Tel.: + 7 812 328-4657
PLAZA
No this is not a Dubai car dealership, this is just PLAZA guest parking; club located in Stock Exchange building on the tip of Vasilievsky island. You can smell wealth at the very entrance, girls in line wears chic fur coats, and when they take off that top layer in the coat room, you bet they'd have an elegant designer outfit underneath. The whole club look vibrates with latest fashion esthetics: interior design of this semi-basement space is tastefully done and looks very up to date. Huge dance floor with stage lets all who is willing, to demonstrate their refined dance skills, staff dancers will support you. You will hear typical Russian pop menu, mostly ultramodern hits. Large stage space tells you that they often have local pop star concerts. Cover 400-500 rubles per person.
Address: Naberezhnaya Makarova, 2. Closest subway station: Sportivnaya. Tel. + 7 812 323-9090
SPARTAK cultural center
It's rather difficult to describe what SPARTAK really is. First of all, it's a movie theater, the only in St. Petersburg showing program movies; secondly, it's a pub, and a club, and a pool, and a Lutheran church as well. Even though the center is open every day, you should inquire about programs in advance. Though, if you see life concert listed in a program, you'd know that most likely than not there would be the cream of St. Petersburg musical elite. Atmosphere and good mood are guaranteed, and it's very possible that after the concert you would hear a couple songs from a real star - be it a leader of local cult rock group or…
Credit cards are not accepted.
Address: Kirochnaya ul., 6. Closest subway station: Chernyshevskaya. Tel. + 7 812 273-7739
FACULTET
Absolute majority of folks hanging out in the immediate vicinity of university will be, you guessed it, students. Club managers are from the same team of famous GRIBOEDOV, but the whole club concept is totally different. Bar and hall have plenty of seats. Interior definitely reflects academia: decorated with Shekespeare volumes and Great Soviet Enciclopeadias, large library-style reading lamps for ambiance lighting. Club holds concerts and popular DJ shows, playing exclusively vinyl. Live concerts start at 10 PM. Also you would often see photo and art exhibits. Prices are very reasonable.
Address: prospect Dobrolyubova, 6. Closest subway station: Sportivnaya. Tel. + 7 812 233-0672
FIREBALL
Kupchino bedroom-district residents don't have to leave the premises should they wish for some entertainment. Even city guests won't be sorry for coming here such a long way. The club spirit will remind you of Quentin Tarantino movies, Pulp fiction soundtrack is a part of usual repertoire, which creates this one-of-a-kind atmosphere. Prices, compared to downtown clubs are just ridiculously low, vodka flows freely, and everything is under security service control, big brother watches you! Any fight would be nipped at the bud; uniformed officers neutralize troublemakers without causing any moral discomfort to either party. Local crowd is a good fit: little boorish but friendly. Kupchino is having fun!
Address: Alpijsky per, 30; tel. + 7 812 172-4494
CLUB 69
Famous gay-club in St. Petersburg, it seems to have sort of special magnetism for heterosexuals as well. Before, they tried to lower female visitors quota by charging outrageous cover. But this measure didn't really work. Crowd is quite diverse, shows are magnificent, music turns you on and gets you going. Second floor features dark room, no women allowed. Atmosphere is very comfortable, prices reasonable, service - very pleasant.
Address: ul. 2 Krasnoarmeyskaya, 6. Tel. + 7 812 259-5163
