The Oranienbaum Museum and Preserve Has Opened the Summer Season
The summer season has been opened in the Oranienbaum State Museum and Preserve. Victor Gribanov, director of the museum, said to a correspondent of Rosbalt that several exhibitions had been prepared for the season. The most important exhibition will be “Russian Orthodox St. Petersburg. Saints and Holy Places of St. Petersburg”. It includes exhibits from 26 museums and archives in the Great Palace of Menshikov. Visitors will see old and modern icons, portraits of archbishops, relics of the dynasty of the Romanovs, priests’ clothes, church decorations and embroidery works made for churches. Among the exhibits are the hammer and the trowel used by Catherine the Great when laying the foundation stone of St. Isaac’s Cathedral and an icon belonging to the wife of Alexander III.
The exhibition “Samurais. Aspects of Japanese Culture of from the 17th century to the beginning of the 20th century” has been opened in the Japanese Pavilion and an exhibition of 18th-19th-century sculptures from the collections of the Museum and Preserve has been opened in the Stone Room pavilion of the Upper Park.
The exhibition will last until April 2004.
