First visitors will come to the Hermitage restaurant on May 15

The opening ceremony of the Hermitage restaurant took place at the State Hermitage. Director of the Hermitage, Mikhail Piotrovsky, told about it at the press conference held in one of the rooms of the Hermitage restaurant.

The restaurant is in the eastern part of the building of the Central Headquarters. Nine rooms, each room decorated in its own style, are located on the area of 1,500 square meters. The rooms are connected with each other by a gallery where exhibitions of modern artists will be held. There are two entrances to the restaurant: from the Palace Square and from Bolshaya Morskaya Street. With these two entrances, the restaurant is divided into two parts. A real decoration of the more official part of the restaurant is the Caviar Bar. According to Mikhail Piotrovsky, original architectural details of the building designed by Carlo Rossi in the 1820s have been preserved in the interior of the restaurant. “We tried to do our best to preserve all the Russian irregularities”, - added Mikhail Piotrovsky.

According to Alexander Vexler, manager of the restaurant, there is enough place in the restaurant for up to 250 persons. In addition, there are 16 VIP places. According to Vexler, the so called “democratic” part of the restaurant where everybody will be able to come and have a cup of coffee will be open from 11.00 a.m. to the departure of the last customer. In the caviar Bar, prices will be much higher. There will be at least 130 types of wine, “from the best ones to the elite ones”. Two chefs will work in the restaurant, an Italian and a Russian, who will be, respectively, in charge of European and Russian cuisine. The initial cost of the project 2.5 million dollars. The first visitors will come to the restaurant on May 15.
